WE provide a unique opportunity to sail on board a historic traditional cargo carrying vessel of yesteryear. Step on board and, if the fancy takes you, muck in and help to sail Decima. Take a spell at the wheel – an ideal photo opportunity!
OR just lay back and watch the world go by while we do all the hard work! The choice is yours.
OR how about an even more special day – perhaps a day out on Decima with local artist Mike Lang, offering the
unique chance to improve your artistic skills in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
WE can arrange for local musicians to come on board and truly add to the nautical atmosphere by singing
sea-shanties as we sail on by!
THE area we sail in is one of the richest for wetland birds. Come along and enjoy getting up close while under full sail – without disturbing them! We can arrange for local experts to come along for the day if you wish. Please ask for details.
S.B. DECIMA competes in the annual series of barge races on the East coast. For the ultimate experience come along for the weekend – sail to the event on the Friday – compete as part of the crew on the Saturday –
and hopefully return victorious winners on the Sunday!
For reasons of safety we can only accommodate four people for barge matches.
ARRIVING ON BOARD
Day trip: A normal day-trip would mean arriving on board at high tide in the morning. You will be greeted with tea and coffee and we will get under-way as the tide turns. We will sail down the Blackwater – and dependent on the weather conditions anchor for lunch somewhere close to the mouth of the river. After a relaxed lunch lasting as long as you want we will get underway again and return to Heybridge Basin on the evening tide.
A lunchtime, afternoon or evening trip: A typical lunchtime, afternoon or evening trip will last approximately 3 to 4 hours. Wind and weather permitting we will sail down below Osea Island and return you to Heybridge on the same tide.
Sometimes it may be necessary to use the diesel auxiliary to ensure keeping to our schedule.
CATERING
Our guests may bring a picnic lunch or dinner. However, as a convenient alternative, we can provide a 'Bargeman's Picnic'.
Please ask for details.
Tea and coffee is included in the hire of the barge. Any additional drinks should be brought along.
WEATHER
We will always endeavour to sail on your scheduled day. However in the event of the weather conditions not being favourable we will try ti offer an alternative booking. ULTIMATELY THE DECISION TO SAIL IS THAT OF THE SKIPPER. We will always try to keep you informed should there be any problem.
CLOTHING
We recommend you wear comfortable, casual clothes, sensible, non-slip footwear and bring a wind-proof jacket.
BOOKING
When placing your booking we will ask for a 20% deposit. This deposit is ONLY returnable should the skipper have to cancel due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.
